When should guitar frets be replaced?
Like any wear part, frets wear down over time. How much the guitar is played is an important factor when considering fret work. Mechanical problems such as notes choking during bends or persistent buzzing caused by worn frets can require fret leveling and, in more advanced cases, fret replacement. You can arrange an inspection at the workshop for a professional opinion and, if necessary, further work.
The neck is uncomfortable to play — what can be done?
Your guitar probably needs a Setup. During a setup — the guitar’s periodic service — the mechanical and electronic parameters are checked and adjusted, with a major goal of making the instrument considerably more comfortable to play.
Should a guitar be stored on a wall hanger?
Guitars are best stored in a hard case or a quality gig bag. I do not recommend a wall hanger as a replacement for proper storage. In addition to the local climate and humidity affecting an exposed instrument, a guitar left outside its case is more vulnerable to physical damage and loss of value.
Can a bass guitar be played through an electric-guitar amp?
It is generally not recommended. A bass guitar operates at lower frequencies than an electric-guitar amplifier and its speaker are normally designed to handle. The reverse is different: an electric guitar can usually be played through a bass amp, although the tone will be different.
Can an acoustic or classical guitar be played through an electric-guitar amp?
In general, yes, but the sound will not necessarily represent the natural acoustic character of the instrument. Tube and solid-state amps designed for electric guitar are voiced differently from acoustic amps. For amplified acoustic instruments, a dedicated acoustic amplifier or suitable full-range system is usually a better choice. Broadly speaking, guitar amplification falls into electric-guitar amps, acoustic-instrument amps and bass amps.
