Breaks and cracks are a common problem for guitarists. This kind of “trauma” can result from many causes; one of the most common is a fall. Damage can range from a minor break to complete separation of two or more parts of the guitar. Cracks may also appear after a fall or as the wood ages and wears over the years.
During restoration I carry out a thorough structural repair, joining the broken parts while restoring the guitar’s color and finish. The repair begins with adhesive bonding and, where appropriate, is followed by mechanical reinforcement. Cosmetic restoration can include wood reconstruction, color work and a lacquer finish matched to the instrument.
